Unqualified Teacher (Apprentice Teacher)- Abbey Hill Academy & College job summary

About this role

The St Bart's Multi Academy Trust, in partnership with Governors, staff and children of Abbey Hill Academy & College are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our hard working and committed team.

At Abbey Hill Academy & College our children come first. High expectations, mutual trust and respect are underpinned by a warm, supportive ethos. In the best interests of our children we work very closely with our partner Academies. The successful candidate will be working alongside a team of caring, enthusiastic, dedicated staff, who are well-supported by their Senior Leadership Team.

Abbey Hill Academy & College is looking to recruit graduates to join its teacher development programme which commences in September 2024, but earlier is a possibility. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and develop the skills to become a specialist SEND teacher.

You will spend the first year employed as an Unqualified Teacher. On successful completion of the first year, you will have the opportunity to apply to join a Level 6 Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship, where you will continue to be employed as an Unqualified Teacher, spending 1 day per week at our selected Training Provider / taking part in 'off-the-job training', learning the theory behind teaching, and 4 days per week in school applying your knowledge and skills to your own classes. The Apprenticeship is a 12month qualification that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Following which, you would be employed as a qualified teacher - of which the current starting salary is £30,000 p/annum.

Abbey Hill Academy & College is a large special academy catering for pupils aged 3-19 years of age. Due to its success, Abbey Hill is oversubscribed and has expanded year on year. We are now in a position where we want to train and develop the next generation of specialist SEND teachers. Abbey Hill is a proud member of the St Bart's Academy Trust, and therefore there are many opportunities for further development and progression.

Successful candidates will be allocated a mentor who will work with you throughout the initial stages of your training. They will be your first point of contact for advice and guidance. Not only will you teach your own lessons, but you will also have the opportunity to teach other classes within your department and across the academy. There is a requirement to cover lessons too - giving you additional experience across a range of special educational needs and age groups.

Abbey Hill has a range of highly skilled practitioners - both teachers and support staff. All able and willing to support you on your teacher training journey.
