Assistant Principal - Inclusion and Vulnerable Learners job summary

Following the successful promotion of the previous postholder to the central role of Director of Vulnerable Learners for the multi-academy trust, we are looking to appoint an ambitious and highly effective Assistant Principal to support the academy in its drive to continue its growth as an exceptional education provider for our students, staff, families and wider community. We are looking for a leader who is dynamic, inspirational, and passionate. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following core values: • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead, motivate and inspire both staff and students to reach the highest levels of achievement; • A set of personal characteristics and ambitions which align with that of the Principal and senior leadership team; • Evidence of impact towards school improvement through sustained work at leadership level; • The ability to operate at a strategic level with clear ideas for how our academy can continue to grow, thrive and excel in the years ahead; • The ability to work at pace and manage the demands of strategic and operational thinking in a challenging environment. Senior leaders are expected to contribute to all aspects of school life including a deliberate focus on providing a visible presence around the academy site. This specific role will assume responsibility for inclusion and the strategic delivery of learning support across the school. The successful candidate will be part of the senior leadership team of the school and support the Principal in the development of positive culture amongst all sub-groups of learners. They will also be the strategic lead for safeguarding, LAC and our early help family well-being offer, leading a team of over 20 learning support staff. The inclusion team (SEND / safeguarding and well-being) are immensely strong and were highlighted as such in our two recent Ofsted reports. Each area has a non-teaching leader who has the skills and expertise to ensure each element of our inclusion plan thrives. The successful candidate will have a desire to raise standards of achievement for children with SEND, to increase staff confidence and competence in teaching children with SEND and to ensure all children experience equal opportunities. The successful candidate will hold the relevant SENCO qualification, or be willing to work towards it and have a proven track record of working within a strong pastoral / SEND team. Candidates will need to demonstrate: • Outstanding classroom teaching; • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of practice; • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and a relevant DSL qualification; • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead, motivate and inspire staff and students to reach the highest levels of achievement; • Evidence of whole school responsibility or significant contribution to whole school initiatives; • The ability to operate at a strategic level including effective use of data, self-evaluation and quality assurance processes; • A track record of successful outcomes ideally from a SEND / pastoral perspective; • A philosophy of strong behaviour management. Due to the strength & flexibility of existing senior leaders, candidates from all areas of school responsibility are welcome, including existing senior leaders or outstanding middle leaders.
