Visiting Teacher of Viola and Violin (Maternity Cover) job summary

Position: VT of Viola and Violin (Maternity Cover)

Location: On site, Westbury-on-Trym BS9 3BA

Hours: The number of lessons will depend on demand and cannot be guaranteed. Initially, there will be one viola pupil, two violin pupils and a weekly training orchestra support role. There will also be opportunities to undertake occasional paid playing in school concerts.

The closing date for this position will be Thursday 5th March at 8:00am

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Visiting Teacher of Viola and Violin to support the Music Department on a maternity cover basis.


Main responsibilities include:

• To stimulate and foster enthusiasm for Violin and Viola playing within the school

• Prepare lessons taking account of pupils’ abilities

• Identify and encourage each pupil to realise their potential

• Employing good subject knowledge, become fully acquainted with the appropriate specifications and exam boards and carry out the requirements thereof

• Keep abreast of developments in your music teaching


To be considered for this position, we are looking for the following:

• An outstanding viola and violin player

• An experienced teacher of viola and violin

• Excellent subject knowledge

• A clear understanding of music examination boards, including ABRSM and Trinity
