What skills and experience we're looking for

You Are: An experienced hairdresser/barber and/or tutor with a clear understanding of professional hairdressing/barbering and the wider industry including beauty industries. You will have the ability to share your knowledge and expertise to support students in achieving qualifications in Hairdressing and Barbering. You will also demonstrate a willingness to undertake training and mentoring from qualified teachers to develop skills of planning and assessment. You will become a role model to groups of students, and will be able to model skills within your trade alongside the wider skills of employability (including professionalism, organisation and adaptability). You will be keen develop links with local employers from hairdressing and barbering related industries and develop enterprise initiatives to enable pupils to get a taste of the world of work alongside formal qualifications.

What the school offers its staff

Students who access The Workplace come from across East Sussex and have been identified as at being at risk of disengagement and suspension from their commissioning school. We have high expectations of students via Workplace standards, to suitably prepare them for post-16 and the wider world of work. Staff work with employers across industry to ensure that classroom practice replicates the world of work and ensure students develop relevant skills and knowledge. Pastoral care is a critical part of the whole school curriculum.

The Workplace is an aspirational and innovative Alternative Provision Free School in East Sussex which opened in September 2020. The Workplace provides industry relevant education for students in year 9-11 which is high quality, based on partnerships and focused on enterprise. It offers students a strong grounding in Math's, English, Science and Enterprise alongside quality provision in one of six vocational areas (Hairdressing & Barbering, Hospitality & Catering, Multi-trades construction, Automotive, Sports & Fitness and Arts & Creativity).
