NJC Scale Point 12 to 17 (£28,598 to £31,022 FTE)

Actual Salary £24,690 to £26,782 per annum

About the Role

Your core purpose will be to support young people and their families, helping to minimise the impact of mental ill health, social challenges, and other welfare concerns on students’ development and education.

 

You will make a tangible, positive difference to the lives and wellbeing of young people by working closely with families, helping them to better understand and support their child’s needs. You will need to be tenacious and professionally assertive, able to challenge respectfully when children’s needs are not being met—whether by professionals or family members.

You will:

·        Deliver consistent, effective welfare support to students and families.

·        Work under pressure and respond appropriately to urgent or changing situations.

·        Liaise confidently with professionals, agencies, and families.

·        Follow safeguarding procedures accurately and exercise sound judgement.

·        Keep clear, detailed, and compliant records.

About the Team 

At times, you will act as the sole DSL on duty, using your professional judgement to triage situations, problem-solve, risk-assess, and navigate challenging conversations. On most days, however, you will work as part of a strong, supportive welfare team made up of a senior leader, Deputy DSL, Attendance Officer and Family Support Worker.

 

The team works collaboratively, sharing tasks based on experience and capacity. Colleagues are generous with their advice and guidance, and you will be supported to learn quickly and contribute to the team’s positive, can-do ethos. Above all, the team expects every colleague to act with integrity and in the best interests of the child, even when situations are complex or challenging.
