Wellbeing & Safeguarding Officer - Children's Team job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our Children's Team. This role is integral to supporting the safeguarding and mental health of our students, as well as fostering positive relationships within the school and the wider community. You will work as part of a larger team to ensure the well-being of our students, offering support in safeguarding matters. You will organise, lead and promote mental health and well-being initiatives. You will work as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead within one of our four houses with support and guidance from the DSL and Children’s Team Manager.

The Thomas Aveling School is an amazing school to work in with supportive and visible leaders and a fantastic team spirit – we are a happy school! You will meet well-behaved and motivated children who enjoy learning and make great progress. We are a popular and massively over-subscribed school, being first choice for many families.

Pupils and students say that they are happy, and they feel safe. They say that staff care about them and help them to do their best” -Ofsted, Sept 22

The successful candidate will be responsible for reacting to a variety of situations throughout the day, working closely with staff, students, and external partners to provide tailored support where needed. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as the role will involve collaboration with colleagues to ensure that all safeguarding protocols are met, and that children feel supported in a nurturing environment.

Experience in safeguarding children and supporting mental health and well-being is highly beneficial. We are looking for someone who is adaptable, empathetic, and committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. If you are passionate about safeguarding and student welfare, we encourage you to apply.

In return, we will offer you:

  • supportive induction programme
  • happy, motivated children to teach
  • a happy and caring community
  • a healthy Work-Life Balance and a committed Leadership Team
  • Care First employee assistance programme
  • private health care cover by Benenden
  • Two-week half term in October
