The First Federation Trust is looking to appoint a SENDCO based at Westcliff Primary Academy. Our community is looking for a dedicated, motivational and qualified or experienced SENDCo to transform the lives of local children with Special Educational Needs. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will start their role in September 2024.

Westcliff Primary Academy is a large school (NOR 362) located in Dawlish, Devon with a commitment to inclusion for all children. The school has pupils with EHCPs, Pupils on SEND support plans and those whom receive in-school support for additional needs. The school also adds to Devon’s capacity to meet the needs of children with SEND through supporting an eight pupil SEMH Resource. The base supports children with social, emotional and mental health needs who are presenting challenging behaviours. The SENDCo role will be pivotal in leading this area of the school as part of the leadership team, as well as improving outcomes for SEND learners across the whole school. The school currently has an experienced SENDCO; this post has been created to add additional SEN capacity to the school and the successful candidate will be expected to work successfully alongside the current SENDCO.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have an exceptional understanding of teaching in the primary phase
  • Will be a qualified SENDCO or have relevant experience. (You will be supported to undertake and complete the NPQ SEND, if you do not currently hold the NASEN Award).
  • Be motivated to make a difference in children’s lives?
  • Have an excellent understanding of the SEND code of practice
  • Have both an excellent understanding of pupil progress and a willingness to embrace change
  • Be committed to the view that children with SEND needs should aspire to flourish and attain high outcomes.
