Year Group Manager - Maternity Cover job summary

This is a key pastoral role within the academy, providing a pivotal link between students, families, staff and external agencies. The successful candidate will play a central part in supporting student wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and engagement at a crucial stage of secondary education.

The Role

As Year Group Manager, you will:

  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer and hold a child protection caseload
  • Contribute to the leadership of attendance monitoring and intervention for the year group

  • Support students with social, emotional, behavioural and attendance needs
  • Work closely with the Director of Learning, pastoral teams and external agencies to meet student needs

  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and carers
  • Contribute to assemblies, rewards, student voice and wider academy events
  • Use data to identify concerns and implement timely, effective interventions

This role requires a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and high standards, alongside excellent organisational and communication skills.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience of working with young people in an educational, pastoral or welfare context
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Excellent organisation, time‑management and administrative skills
  • Confidence working with attendance systems, behaviour processes and safeguarding procedures
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider pastoral team
  • Absolute respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries

Experience in education, youth work or student support is advantageous, but we also welcome applicants able to demonstrate suitability through transferable experience.
