What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for two dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our warm and welcoming school community. These roles are to provide 1:1 support for children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

What we’re looking for:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND, CLA or trauma-related needs.
  • Patience, empathy and a nurturing approach
  • The ability to stay calm and confident in the face of challenging behaviour
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents
  • Flexibility, creativity and the confidence to think on your feet
  • Willingness to learn and develop your skills – training will be provided
  • Providing 1:1 support for a named child, both in class and through personalised activities • Supporting learning and social development during lessons, interventions and playtimes • Helping to deliver adapted provision in quiet spaces or outdoor learning environments • Working closely with teachers, our SENCO and outside agencies • Contributing to the “assess, plan, do, review” cycle, supporting individual targets and work towards EHCP outcomes.

Essential:

The person appointed will:

  • Have experience of working with children
  • Have a passion for working with children with SEND.
  • Have a calm, non-confrontational manner
  • The ability to stay calm and confident in the face of challenging behaviour
  • Be polite when dealing with children
  • Be able to understand and carry out instructions accurately
  • Have care and supervision skills
  • Respect confidentiality
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Have high expectations for all children
  • Be prepared to participate in training
  • Display a commitment towards safe-guarding young people
  • Be enthusiastic, flexible and have a sense of humour

Desirable:

The person appointed may:

  • Have knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, CLA or trauma related needs and the ability to use this knowledge to support a child.

  • Have a good understanding of the curriculum for Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2
  • A learning support qualification
