This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a welcoming, ambitious and inclusive school community within EQUA Mead Learning Trust, where collaboration, kindness and high expectations are at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

As a One-to-One Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, the SEND team and pastoral colleagues to provide personalised support throughout the school day. Your role will be instrumental in helping a student engage successfully in learning, develop independence and build the confidence and resilience needed to flourish both academically and personally.

You will:

  • Provide high-quality one-to-one support within lessons and around the school.

  • Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs and promote engagement.

  • Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families and colleagues.

  • Support the student's emotional wellbeing, confidence and personal development.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and specialists to implement personalised support strategies.

  • Contribute to a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.

  • Maintain accurate records where required and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and confidentiality.

About you

We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to inclusion and believes that every young person can succeed.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

  • Have experience of working or volunteering with young people in an educational or youth setting.

  • Be committed to supporting students with a range of additional needs, including SEND, Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

  • Be calm, patient, resilient and adaptable.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be able to build positive and professional relationships with students, families and colleagues.

  • Be organised, reliable and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Have good IT skills and a willingness to undertake professional development.

A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, experience in a secondary school or experience supporting students with SEND would be welcomed but is not essential, as full training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

Why join The John of Gaunt School?

As part of EQUA Mead Learning Trust, you'll be joining an organisation that invests in its people as much as its pupils.

We offer:

  • A welcoming and supportive team who value collaboration and kindness.

  • Excellent professional development and career progression opportunities across the Trust.

  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and work-life balance.

  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people every day.
