2 i/c of Humanities (History with Government and Politics specialism) job summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated 2 i/c of Humanities (History with Government and Politics specialism) to deliver high-quality lessons that support students in achieving outstanding progress. The successful candidate will set clear learning targets, assess student progress with regular feedback, and ensure students are well-prepared for examinations. With a genuine passion for Humanities specialising in History with Government and Politics , you’ll help our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, while staying up-to-date with current educational thinking. They will contribute to schemes of work, maintain a stimulating learning environment, and engage with parents and the wider school community. The role also involves taking responsibility for professional development and actively participating in school duties and performance management activities.
The Faculty of Humanities comprises of three key departments; History, Geography and Religious Studies, whilst also offering A Level Government and Politics, GCSE and A level Classical Civilisations. There are currently 9 full-time teachers plus 1 part-time teacher in the faculty, with 3 of these being members of the school's SLT. Collegiality is a core focus of the faculty where, working together as a team of colleagues with shared goals and responsibility is at its heart. There is a common policy regarding the organisation and presentation of work, standards of marking and homework. By working together, we hope to strengthen each subject, and enable students to appreciate the elements we have in common. It is with this goal in mind that the new position of second in charge of the faculty is being created and will bring us in-line with the Maths, English and Science faculties within the school. The overriding focus of the faculty is one of developing a challenging curriculum that can be accessed by all students while fostering the skills needed for the wider world and enhancing the student's employability. With the departure of one of the faculty teachers, we have been able to take the opportunity to create this new role. The outgoing member of the faculty is a history specialist who also teaches some of the A Level Politics course. An ability to teach History is essential, while the ability to teach any other of the subjects on offer would be helpful. The faculty is well stocked with resources, and the classroom have interactive whiteboards, visualisers and access to a class bank of laptops. A variety of software is available on the school IT network. In addition to the classroom there is an office for staff close by. The faculty is established and respected, with a record of strong outcomes in terms of results, future destinations and uptake in students at KS4 and KS5. The majority of our subjects follow the AQA specification except for A Level and GCSE Classics, A Level Geography and A Level History who follow the OCR specification. The faculty also offers the Extended project qualification and a strong record of uptake within the sixth form students.
