What skills and experience we're looking for

Qualifications

  • Good quality Honours degree (essential)
  • PGCE, or equivalent, in Secondary Education (essential)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (essential)

Experience

  • Proven success in teaching G.C.S.E. Geography (essential)
  • Experience of teaching/leading curriculum development outside subject area (desirable)
  • Experience of teaching A Level Geography (desirable)

Skills/Qualities Attributes and knowledge

  • Up to date knowledge of the Geography National Curriculum (essential)
  • A proven ability to consistently teach lessons that are ‘good’ or better (essential)
  • Good and imaginative use of resources including new technologies (essential)
  • Good understanding of Assessment for Learning and the ability to put this into practice (essential)
  • Well-developed behaviour for learning skills (essential)
  • An ability to forge good working relationships with staff and students
  • Efficient organisational skills (essential)
  • Knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments in Geography (essential)
  • An understanding of the qualities of a good Scheme of Work
  • Ensure that whole school policies are implemented consistently across Geography (essential)
  • An ability to analyse and interpret data accurately in order to monitor pupil progress (desirable)
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies that can be used effectively at KS3 to address underperformance (desirable)
  • Ability to monitor the quality of teaching and learning across Key Stage 3 and to support colleagues as required (desirable)
