Academic Mentor - Subject Tutor job summary
Do you have a strong academic background and a passionate interest in a core subject? Are you interested in helping young people develop their core academic skills? Can you play a role in supporting young people’s well-being and progress during an unprecedented challenge for schools under COVID-19?
Stockport School is looking to appoint Academic Mentors - Specialist Subject Tutors to support the following core subjects: English / Maths / Science / Humanities / MFL. Successful post holders will work alongside our students both in class and in small groups across the core subject areas. Student groups may consist of KS3 or KS4 students including a focus on the support of Year 11 GCSE students.
Candidates should be well qualified with strong GCSE passes in at least English and mathematics as well as their other specialist subject area, at minimum grades C or 4 and above, including additional strong GCSE and/or A Level passes (or equivalent) in other subject areas. It would also be desirable for a candidate to be a graduate with a good Honours Degree or other Higher Educational qualification, Qualified Teacher Status, or HLTA Status.
The post is initially in place until the end of the academic year, ending 31st August 2023, with the possibility of an extension of contract for the following academic year.

This opportunity may well appeal to candidates who wish to experience working in a school environment with a view to pursuing a career in education or to candidates who already have QTS but are looking for a change of direction. Academic Mentor – Subject Tutors who decide to embark on this route will be supported in their applications for PGCE and Schools Direct training courses.
