Academies Finance Manager job summary
Job purpose
To provide strategic and operational financial leadership across the academies within the Trust. The Academies Finance Manager will ensure robust financial management, compliance with statutory and regulatory frameworks, and support the Trust’s vision through effective financial planning, reporting, and advisory services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
Support the development and implementation of the Trust’s short, medium, and long-term financial strategy.
Lead on financial planning and forecasting, ensuring alignment with educational priorities and resource allocation.
Advise senior leaders on financial implications of strategic decisions.
Financial Operations & Compliance
Oversee monthly management accounts, including budget variances, cash flow, and balance sheet reporting.
Ensure compliance with the Academies Trust Handbook, Academies Accounts Direction, and relevant legislation.
Lead on year-end procedures, audits, and statutory financial reporting.
Budgeting & Reporting
Collaborate with finance leads and headteachers to prepare and monitor budgets.
Provide accurate and timely financial reports to stakeholders including headteachers, trustees, and external auditors.
Support curriculum-led financial planning and resource optimisation.
Systems & Processes
Recommend and manage financial systems including accounting software and planning tools (currently IMP and Sage Intacct).
Ensure consistency and innovation in financial practices across the Trust.
Maintain accurate financial records and implement audit recommendations.
Team Leadership & Support
Line manage finance staff, providing training, development, and performance management.
Provide induction and support to new finance leads and cover finance functions during vacancies.
Promote a culture of financial best practice and continuous improvement.
Additional Duties
Support income generation and ensure grant funding is used in accordance with conditions.
Contribute to Trust-wide initiatives and support onboarding of new academies.
Provide support for banking and investment processes.
