ADLS (Assistant Head of Dept) - Science job summary

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated person to support the leadership of the Science department as its Assistant Director of Learning and Standards (ADLS).

The Science department currently offers GCSE qualifications in Combined and Separate Science awards (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and also offers ‘A’ Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, along with Level 3 AAQ Applied Science.

Applications are welcomed from colleagues starting their leadership journey as well as more experienced professionals who possess the necessary drive and commitment to work with our students to contribute to the continued improvement of the school. As a previously designated National Teaching School, leading on staff development and initial teacher training, we offer clear opportunities for personal and professional development. We have a range of pathways and programmes tailored to the needs of staff at various levels of their career. These include a Middle Leader Programme as well as a Senior Leader Development Programme.

As a school, we received an ‘Outstanding’ grade in all categories from Ofsted in 2014, 2018 and have maintained this standard in our most recent inspection in 2024. We would like to offer you the chance to work alongside a dedicated, friendly and hardworking Science department, highlighted in the most recent Ofsted inspection ‘outcomes in Science are exceptionally high because of the high quality of leadership and training’.
