What skills and experience we're looking for

We have a vacancy for a professional, effective and enthusiastic administrator to join our happy and hardworking team in our large Church of England junior school. We are looking for someone who can multi-task, has excellent inter-personal skills and shows initiative.

Our Staff Structure includes 4 admin team members: a Business Manager, two Senior Admin Assistants and an Admin Assistant. This vacancy is for our Admin Assistant responsible for Welfare who is normally the first point of contact for our school. We are therefore looking for someone who can engage adults and children alike and who can be both engaging and calm in a range of situations. The role includes answering phone calls, helping visitors and providing general admin support. However, a crucial element of the role is to lead our First Aid provision, supporting children and adults who need health care and promoting everyone’s wellbeing. Previous experience of First Aid provision would be useful, although full training will be provided and updated regularly.

Ideally candidates will have school office experience and so be proficient in the use of a School Information Management System (SIMS) such as Arbor. However, our office team use a range of clearly defined processes, used across Hampshire schools, and we are more than happy to provide induction training to help the right candidate transfer their existing skills to our school environment.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a strong team player

  • Have fantastic communication skills and a caring approach to children and adults

  • Have confidence in dealing with a diverse range of people both on the phone, face to face and in writing

  • Have excellent problem solving skills, alongside the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a constantly changing environment

  • Have excellent IT skills – competence in the use of Microsoft tools such as Office and Teams

  • Be confident and pro-active in using effective systems in a busy school office

  • Be able to remain calm and unflappable
