Admissions Officer job summary

This pivotal role involves managing all aspects of the school’s admissions process from Years 7 to 13. The successful candidate will ensure that all admissions are administered efficiently, fairly, and in line with statutory guidance and school policy. The role also includes responsibility for appeals administration, liaison with local authorities and schools, and maintaining accurate admissions data. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting families through the admissions journey. The Admissions Officer reports to the Principal and is line-managed by the Assistant Vice-Principal responsible for Achievement and Curriculum.

Main Responsibilities

To ensure the efficient and accurate organisation of all aspects of the school’s admission arrangements and processes.

To implement the published admissions fairly and honestly at all times and work with the Principal and Governors to develop the policy in line with local needs and national requirements.

To be responsible for the administration of admissions relating to Years 7 to 11 and to liaise with the Examinations Officer regarding the administration of admissions relating to the Sixth Form.

To act as appeals administrator, supporting the work of the Clerk to the Appeals Panel.

Key Areas of Responsibility

To have a comprehensive knowledge of the Schools Admissions and School Appeals Codes and to apply the content of the codes to our school admissions processes, including the school’s admissions policy, adhering to DfE and OSA guidelines and timetables;

To provide information and data regarding admissions as required to the school’s leadership team, the local governing body and the trust;

To maintain the school roll, including the updating of student information;

To liaise with local authorities regarding co-ordinated admissions and the school’s allocation process;

To liaise with local schools regarding co-ordinated admissions and the entrance examination;

To co-ordinate all aspects of place allocation and matters relating to applications and offers;

To manage school admission enquiries, liaising with other internal and external sources when required;

To manage the entrance examination, liaising with the admissions officers of other schools within the Trafford Consortium.

In liaison with the SENDCo, to ensure that appropriate access arrangements are put in place for the entrance exam and in-year tests.

To liaise with the leadership team and the Examinations Officer on matters relating to the entrance examination;

To transmit entrance examination results to parents and manage feedback;

To arrange advertising related to all admissions, attend open evenings and maintain the admissions section of the school website;

To arrange advertising relative to changes in school policy relating to admissions;

To be responsible for arranging, co-ordinating and managing the appeal process in line with the School Appeals Code, including legislation, appeal panel training, collating of evidence;

To maintain the waiting list and manage the testing of in-year applicants (including invigilation).
