Job Description
Responsible to: The Art & Photography Technician will work under the supervision of the Head of Art. The technician will be expected to carry out the following duties within the department:
Job purpose: To be responsible for managing, maintaining and deployment of the art and photography resources. To work collaboratively on the whole school display and to contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
Main responsibilities:
Preparation of materials/resources (incl clay) as directed and clearing away equipment. This entails the use of machines and equipment.
Assist teaching staff with demonstration lessons and practicals.
Organise and display students’ work.
Prepare and help deliver school exhibitions and awards evenings,
Oversight of specialised teaching areas, stores and / or preparation rooms & arrangements for maintenance and repair services to equipment and working surfaces.
Assist in the maintenance of safety standards in the departments.
Contribute to the planning, development and organisation of systems, procedures and policies as required.
Provide support to students to achieve learning goals.
Provide technical support for students and staff with camera equipment and photography coursework.
Work with students individually or in small groups
Supervising students between 3pm and 4pm to enable coursework to be completed.
Supporting the photography of whole school events and projects.
Provide structured support, particularly with GCSE and A-Level lessons.
Maintenance of stock and breakage records, catalogues and user manuals.
Manage and record the loaning of photographic equipment to students and staff
Ordering, receiving, and accounting for new materials, resources and equipment.
Photograph students work for examination prep and other submissions.
To ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
The post holder is expected to be able to adapt his / her work to address the specific needs of the students.
Run an art club at lunch time or after school
Person Specification
Qualifications & TrainingA good education to GCSE level or equivalent to include English and Maths. (essential)
Photography packages i.e. photoshop. (essential)
Higher level education / qualification (desirable)
Experience of working in a school environment (essential).
Experience of face-to-face communication with young people (essential)
Knowledge of art equipment, including risk assessments.
Knowledge of clay work and using the kiln.
Knowledge of the implications for working in a multicultural environment (essential)
Knowledge and understanding of issues related to equal opportunities and their implications for schools (essential)
Ability to liaise with teaching staff and work in co-operation with colleagues (essential).
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing (essential)
Ability to successfully encourage students to the highest standards of individual achievement (essential)
Ability with word processing, spreadsheets and navigating the internet (essential)
Ability to work calmly, carefully, and efficiently under pressure (essential).
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with students and staff (essential).
