William Howard School is seeking a skilled, organised and enthusiastic Art and Photography Technician to support our successful and thriving Art Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for art, photography and creative processes to play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning. Working alongside teaching staff, you will provide practical, technical and administrative support across Art and Photography, helping to create a safe, inspiring and well-organised environment in which students can develop their creativity and achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of specialist equipment, materials and resources, supporting classroom activities, maintaining departmental systems and ensuring high standards of health and safety across the department.

This role would suit an individual with experience in art, photography, design, creative industries or education support who enjoys working in a busy and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Prepare materials, equipment and resources for Art and Photography lessons.
  • Maintain specialist equipment, tools and learning spaces to ensure they are safe, organised and fit for purpose.
  • Support students during practical activities under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Assist with displays, exhibitions and the presentation of students' work.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering materials and equipment.
  • Support the organisation of coursework, portfolios and examination materials.
  • Undertake administrative tasks relevant to the department.
  • Promote and maintain safe working practices in accordance with departmental and school procedures.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working within an art, photography, creative or educational environment.
  • Has excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Is confident using ICT and a range of specialist equipment and resources.
  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Can work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Has a strong commitment to supporting young people and their learning.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety within practical learning environments.
  • Experience of photography, digital imaging software, exhibitions, displays or stock management would be advantageous.
