Join Our Team: Art Technician - One year contract with possibility of permanent role in 2026
We are seeking to recruit a creative, proactive, and highly organised Art Technician to join the Art & Design Department at Sir Harry Smith Community College. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of engaging and high-quality art education in a dynamic and forward-thinking secondary school.
- Contract: Initial one year contract with a possibility to become permanent in 2026. Term-Time Only
- Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday –Friday 8.45 a.m. – 3:40 p.m / one day to finish at 4pm (Flexibility will occasionally be required during exam periods and exhibition days)
- Salary: Level 1, point 2, - Actual Salary is £16,082 (pay award pending) Full Time Equivalent is £23,656
About the Role
As an Art Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting both staff and students across a wide range of creative activities. You will be responsible for the preparation, organisation, and maintenance of materials, equipment, and teaching spaces to ensure the smooth running of practical art lessons and coursework.
You’ll work closely with our Art teachers to help create a vibrant and stimulating learning environment, contributing to displays and supporting student outcomes through practical assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organise materials and equipment for lessons (e.g. paints, clay, printmaking tools).
- Maintain and manage resources, ensuring all tools and equipment are cleaned, stored safely, and in good working order.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
- Support students and staff during practical sessions, as needed.
- Help curate displays of student artwork throughout the school.
- Ensure that health and safety procedures are followed at all times in the art rooms and studios.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a strong interest or background in Art & Design (practical or academic).
- Is well-organised, efficient, and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Has a practical and hands-on approach to supporting creative work.
- Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and students.
- Understands (or is willing to learn about) health and safety requirements in an art classroom setting.
