What skills and experience we're looking for

We seek to appoint an Assistant Attendance Officer to support in maintaining high standards of student attendance and punctuality. Whilst attendance is in line with the national average, it continues to be a whole school priority and we are always seeking to improve.

Interested candidates will ideally have a good knowledge and prior experience of school attendance procedures and processes, however, whilst experience with attendance procedures would be an advantage, this role may also suit those with experience in well-being, SEND or other relevant areas such as Pupil Premium.

This role will be incredibly fulfilling but equally as demanding. We require someone who has strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate in a patient and resilient way, whilst smiling and remaining positive throughout. You will be part of the wider Student Support Team and liaise with those leading on behaviour and safeguarding.

The successful candidate should:

Have a high standard of education

Be motivated to work with children and young people to ensure they are successful

Have a commitment to, and belief in, the equal value of all students

Be able to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people

Have emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline

Be able to implement relevant highly effective behaviour management strategies with children and young people

Be able to raise self-esteem and expectations of children and young people

Have an awareness, understanding and solution focused approach to overcoming attendance barriers (including mental health, wellbeing and anxiety) for students in enabling them to attend school

Have knowledge and experience of the requirements of safeguarding within schools, including Child Protection

Have knowledge and experience of school attendance systems and related government guidance

Have knowledge and understanding of the national initiative to improve the educational outcomes for students who are eligible for the Pupil Premium funding

Have experience of working with agencies that deliver children and young people’s services

Be able to establish, maintain and share clear systems for keeping records and generating data to inform planning

Be able to collate, monitor and analyse a range of data concisely and accurately

Have strong ICT skills, especially in the use of Word and Excel

Ability to work with confidential information where discretion is paramount and an understanding of data protection.

Communication skills to influence, persuade, motivate and engage with a wide range of children, young people and their families

Ability to communicate effectively and relate well to other stakeholders

Warmth, confidence and empathy informed by a clear sense of purpose in working with children and young people

Physical and emotional resilience and reliability under pressure: managing the unexpected!

Creativity, energy and enthusiasm

Efficient and organised: independent and effective in time management, with a strong ability to prioritise

A willingness to be flexible and adaptable

Good sense of humour

A clear ability to work under own initiative and display flexibility

At The Latimer Arts College, we are a community. Together, we are committed to ensuring that everyone in our school is happy, feels safe and is valued. We are over-subscribed, with approximately 1200 students aged 11-18 who are nurtured and guided through their education in a purposeful and caring community ethos based on respect for all.

We are a Foundation school, supported by a Governing Body and the Local Authority. We are not part of a corporate Trust and can truly say we are a community school.

With our students at the heart of all that we do, we expect each member of the community to uphold our core values of Honesty, Excellence, Ambition, Respect and Teamwork. We encourage the development of core characteristics and skills, such as leadership and resilience, to ensure students leave with the skills required for employment and future success. We also model the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. We aim to make a positive contribution to both our local community and the wider society.

We have a passionate belief in the value of a well-rounded education and it is our intention to unlock the true potential within each and every individual, whatever that may be. We work collectively to motivate our students to place no boundaries on their ambitions, no limits on their aspirations and remove any barriers to their achievement. Through our high expectations we want to inspire our students to achieve excellence and be the best that they can be.

Our staff are essential to our success and so we are fully committed to their wellbeing and professional development.

We seek to appoint staff who thrive on collaboration, innovation and a desire to be amazing: colleagues who will have a passion for improving student achievement and personal development and be bursting with ideas as to how to achieve this. It is our job to nurture you to deliver this success.

We have a highly successful induction programme for new staff, including an ECT programme, and we offer an extensive range of training throughout this. We are passionate about supporting professional development to equip staff teams with the skills, knowledge and understanding that they need to not only fulfil their roles but most importantly to be fulfilled by their roles. We offer continual staff development and frequent training opportunities.

We are committed to the DfE Education Staff Wellbeing Charter and have a varied programme of activities and support in place for our staff. This is responsive and evolves annually based on context and needs, with our staff voice being instrumental in shaping what we provide. We have a very low staff turnover and staff morale is high, this was evident in the last Ofsted report, in staff voice, as well as by the fact that staff choose to send their own children to the school.
