Abbey Hill Academy & College, an all-through special academy catering for children with a diverse range of needs, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated Assistant College Lead to join our college team.
As Assistant College Lead, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day management and organisation of main pathway programmes within our college department. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner, committed to ensuring the educational progress of all students, and will line manage and appraise identified staff. A key aspect of this role will be teaching Sports to our post-16 learners and leading the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, promoting physical development, teamwork, and valuable life skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- In addition to carrying out the duties of a class teacher as outlined in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, the post holder receives a TLR2 for supporting in leading the college department
Leadership and management
- Support and implement the vision and ethos of the Academy
- Contribute to, implement and evaluate the success of the Academy Development Plan, specifically in relation to your allocated area of responsibility
- Ensure that the work of the team/whole Academy (as relevant) is inclusive and issues are addressed in curriculum and/or pastoral management
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures
- Together with SLT, lead on the Academy self evaluation process for your area(s) of responsibility including the monitoring of Academy standards and bringing about improvement
- Be a proactive and effective member of the middle leadership team
- Be an effective role model for your team in terms of teaching, behaviour and classroom management
Teaching and learning responsibility
- Lead and oversee the delivery of allocated programmes across the college department
- Have overall responsibility and accountability for allocated programme(s)
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within your area(s) of responsibility
- Work with teachers to implement effective teaching and learning strategies
- Support the development and delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is ambitious and meets the needs of all learners
- Promote innovative and engaging teaching practices, leveraging the use of technology where appropriate
- Teach our Sports Pathway (including Maths, PSHE, RE)
Monitoring and assessment
- Together with the senior leadership team (SLT) of the Academy, contribute to, monitor and review the impact of teaching and student progress through the analysis of data, ensuring the use of information for planning and target setting in relation to main pathways
- Monitor standards including recorded work as relevant to your TLR area, including reviewing long and medium term planning
- Monitor the quality of student work produced within your area of responsibility
- Implement strategies to enhance the quality of student work, including the development of clear expectations and assessment criteria
- Provide feedback and guidance to teaching staff to improve the quality of assessment and feedback to students
- Analyse data and gather evidence to evaluate the quality of education in relation to your area(s) of responsibility
Manage resources
- Effectively manage resources allocated to main pathways, including staffing, budgets, and equipment (as appropriate)
- Ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively to support high-quality teaching and learning.
