Assistant Head of Science (Chemistry) job summary

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious and passionate teacher to join our strong and high-performing science team. We are looking for someone who is an excellent teacher and who can promote their love of Chemistry and Science to our students. This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent classroom practitioner to join a fantastic team and school. We welcome applications from teachers looking to take their first step into a leadership role, or from experienced leaders. A passion for science and Chemistry in particular, and the many opportunities this can open for students is key.

The successful candidate will join a close, friendly and supportive team of teachers, all of whom are specialists in their subject. We are looking for a candidate with the skills and experience to make a real difference and contribute to our students’ love of science. We are looking for someone who will be a team player in this oversubscribed, friendly and high-achieving school where we challenge all students and staff to be the best they can be.

We are looking for:

·        a teacher of Chemistry to GCSE level (triple science) with a track record of excellent student progress and the ability to teach all sciences at Key Stage 3

·        a strong presence and the ability to form excellent relationships with students, and all stakeholders

·        an innovative thinker who is able to find creative solutions and think on their feet

·        a driven and motivated professional who works hard and always strives to ensure students have the very best learning experience in science

·        a teacher who is keen to develop and progress within the profession

We are looking for someone with the commitment and energy to continue to drive forward our high standards and high outcomes in science. Our teachers also have excellent support from our Trust Lead for Science and there are many opportunities for training, progression and sharing of good practice across the Weydon Multi Academy Trust.

We have a strong induction programme for all new staff and we can support more experienced staff with undertaking NPQs.

Within school you will have support from our extended Student Support Team, including the Welfare Team, Engagement Team and Learning Support team. We have a team of excellent and dedicated teachers, tutors and Middle Leaders across the school and our students are a delight to work with and achieve consistently excellent progress in their GCSEs (P8 = + 0.88 in 2024).

We are an oversubscribed and friendly school with big ambitions, and our staff and students are “proud to belong … proud to achieve”. Our school has undergone significant refurbishment over the last three years, including a recent state-of-the-art extension to our Drama studio and a new English block and library completed in August 2024.

We are an 11-16 Academy of 900 students and our school is situated in a fantastic location on the outskirts of Haslemere. Haslemere lies in Surrey, on the border with Hampshire and West Sussex and we have excellent road and rail links to neighbouring counties. We are situated just 3 minutes’ drive off the main A3 and we are also fortunate to have a train station in Haslemere on the mainline from Portsmouth to London Waterloo. This makes us very accessible from the South Coast or outer London areas by train or car.
