What skills and experience we're looking for

- A proven track record of high-quality teaching of pupils with PMLD/CLDD and social communication needs across the age range.

- Knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of PMLD and CLDD pupils, including the current research, pedagogical approaches and specific successful interventions

- Experience of overcoming barriers to learning.

- Involvement in curriculum development.

- Understanding of assessment strategies and their role in maximising pupil progress and raising standards of achievement

- Experience of providing appropriate pastoral support for individual pupils including an understanding of appropriate strategies for supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

- Understanding of high-quality teaching and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve their practice.

- Experience of successful line management and staff development.

- Appropriate knowledge of statutory safeguarding requirements and their effective implementation.

- Knowledge of specialist resources and approaches to teaching children with PMLD/CLDD including communication strategies and techniques such as Intensive interaction, sensory stories etc.

- Knowledge and experience of specific medical interventions which may be required for PMLD/CLDD such as suction, tracheostomy etc.

- Experience of planning and implementing individual programmes for students with PMLD/CLDD using specific interventions

- Experience leading transition processes for PMLD/CLDD pupils across key stages

- Experience using ICT innovatively to enable PMLD/CLDD pupils to access the curriculum successfully

- Enthusiastic and committed approach to working with children with PMLD/CLDD to get the best outcomes and promote the ethos and values of the school.

- Highly effective teacher who can work as a role model to staff

- Self-motivated individual with ability to communicate a vision and inspire and sustain a positive, solution focused attitude in others.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships with all stakeholders, including parents and specialist professionals

- Ability to lead and enhance the performance of a staff team to secure high quality provision for children with autism

- Ability to foster commitment from staff

- Proactive individual with ability to work under pressure and use own initiative to prioritise effectively.

- Ability to remain calm in challenging situations

- Empathetic and sensitive manner

- Ability to analyse and use data to design, deliver and evaluate strategies to improve pupil progress.

- Commitment to safeguarding and equality.

- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.

- Proactive approach to own professional learning and development.
