What skills and experience we're looking for

Hallmoor School – Assistant Headteacher

Salary: L9-14 Start date – September 2025

Hallmoor School is an inclusive, forward-thinking and popular specialist school for pupils aged 5 to 19 years with a range of diagnosis including Severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and Complex Needs. The number on roll has increased to almost 300 children in recent years with further growth expected. The school has been through significant change and improvement in recent years, having achieved ‘Good’ in Ofsted in December 2023 and has recently appointed a new headteacher.

We are looking for a new permanent Assistant Headteacher, with a focus on pastoral care, safeguarding and behaviour. You will play a critical role in driving the school forward by working with a talented group of senior & middle leaders and a dedicated, caring staff team. The school is supported by a wide multi-disciplinary team, which includes speech & language therapists and occupational therapists to ensure that pupils access therapeutic interventions. The school team also includes a Family Support Worker and a Learning Mentor who support children, families and carers.

The school is part of Forward Education Trust (FET), an established and developing MAT of 7 special schools in Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell. The Trust believes that its staff and leaders are its most important asset and that valuing them and utilising their many talents will deliver the best experiences for pupils. You will be empowered to make decisions and to be creative. You will join supportive and well-established collaborative networks, where colleagues support each other, and we learn from each other. The Trust will have a real interest in your future and will be keen to explore ways that you can develop personally and professionally.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and role model, with leadership experience. Experience of teaching pupils with learning disabilities and having worked with different age groups would be desirable. You must be ambitious for all learners, whatever their additional needs and want to make a difference. You must have the ability to initiate and lead change in a positive way which makes a real difference to learning and above all, share the school’s commitment to ensuring the students are safe and happy and achieve their full potential. Working in a supportive Trust environment must be central to your thinking, receiving and giving capacity to the wider network of schools.

Candidates are encouraged to visit the school and/or call to have an informal conversation with the headteacher, Nicky Crookshank.
