What skills and experience we're looking for

Main Purpose of the Role

  • Lead and oversee Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1, and the Read Write Inc program
  • Class based teacher in KS1 classroom for 0.6 days
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and support colleagues to raise teaching standards
  • Contribute to the strategic leadership of our large, rapidly improving school
  • Promote and uphold the school’s commitment to safeguarding and equality

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Read Write Inc
  • Support and develop high-quality teaching and learning across these areas
  • Act as a role model of outstanding classroom practice, coaching and mentoring staff as needed
  • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation and school improvement planning
  • Work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team
  • Ensure robust safeguarding procedures are in place and adhered to at all times
  • Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the school
  • Foster strong relationships with pupils, staff, parents and the community
  • Seek permission from your Governing Board for temporary release if currently employed elsewhere

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Evidence of relevant professional development
  • Leadership experience or training desirable

Experience

  • Successful teaching experience in EYFS and/or Key Stage 1
  • Experience of leading Read Write Inc (or similar phonics programme) desirable
  • Experience of coaching/mentoring colleagues
  • Proven record of outstanding classroom practice

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of EYFS and Key Stage 1 curriculum and assessment
  • Strong understanding of Read Write Inc and effective phonics teaching
  • Ability to use data to drive improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff teams
