Assistant Headteacher
Barr Beacon School, Old Hall lane, Walsall, WS9 0RF
Salary: Leadership Scale L11-L16
Start Date: April 2026
Barr Beacon School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic Assistant Headteacher to join our high-performing leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious leader to make a significant impact on whole-school improvement and shape the future of our school.
About the Role
The successful candidate will hold formal leadership responsibility for one or more key areas of whole-school improvement. You will use your expertise—whether developed as a successful pastoral leader, faculty leader, or lead practitioner—to strengthen leadership capacity across the school.
We are looking for a leader who can develop high-achieving teams, build future leadership talent, and consistently model the high standards we expect from all staff. You must be someone who can think and do, not simply talk about improvement—someone who is proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to implementation as well as strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on designated whole-school improvement priorities, ensuring accountability and measurable impact.
- Line-manage teams effectively, influencing and enabling high-quality practice across your areas of responsibility.
- Take collective responsibility for promoting excellent behaviour and ensuring a calm, purposeful learning environment.
- Work proactively to support the Headteacher and the wider Senior Leadership Team in driving school strategy.
- Model professionalism, integrity and resilience at all times.
- Collaborate with leaders across other schools to strengthen practice and contribute to wider trust and local networks.
About You
We are seeking someone who:
- Is a highly successful teacher with a strong track record of impact in their current leadership role.
- Has the drive and credibility to inspire others and lead change.
- Understands what high performance looks like and can secure it in others.
- Thrives in a collaborative, forward-thinking culture.
- Has the determination, creativity, and practical problem-solving ability to make things happen.
About us:
Barr Beacon School has a shared belief that no child should fail and our high standards and expectations ensure our pupils strive for success. As a highly successful school, we have a commitment to exceptional teaching to provide the best possible education for our students. The successful candidate will have access to excellent professional development opportunities within our Academy and across the wider Matrix Academy Trust.

We are proud to offer a comprehensive well-being package to all employees, including access to 24/7 online GP, physiotherapy services and counselling services. The word ‘outstanding’ appears a lot in advertisements for teachers – but at Barr Beacon School, it means more. With over 1000 requests for the 252 places available in Year 7 this September, parents would certainly agree. When Ofsted last visited, they merely confirmed what we already knew.
How have we achieved all of this?
Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated as we are. These amazing people work hard – in fact they work very hard – to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can.
Whether they are the most able or or the least able, the most advantaged or the least advantaged, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.
Not surprisingly, there’s a real buzz about the place. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
