A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Headteacher at Castle EAST School, a special school for pupils with Communication and Interaction needs.

We are looking for an outstanding leader, with passion and an exciting vision for inclusive education, to join our school. Castle EAST School offers specialist education for pupils with Communication and Interaction needs, between the ages of 9 – 16 years. This age range means that the school provides a curriculum covering three Key Stages.

Main purpose

The Assistant Headteacher, under the direction of the Headteacher, will take a major role in:

  • Formulating the aims and objectives of the school
  • Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives
  • Managing staff and resources to that end
  • Monitoring progress towards the achievement of the school’s aims and objectives
  • The assistant headteacher will be required to teach lessons as per the direction of the Headteacher, and so will be expected to comply with the teachers’ standards and modelling best practice for others
  • They may also be required to undertake any of the duties delegated from the Headteacher

The Assistant Headteacher will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a Headteacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).
