What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to join our senior leadership team and help shape the next phase of our school’s development.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Head teacher to strengthen leadership capacity, further develop high-quality teaching and learning, and ensure the very best outcomes for all pupils.

The role has been carefully designed to provide clear and complementary leadership across the school, with the Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum, Standards & Strategic Direction focusing on:

  • Curriculum development and subject leadership
  • Assessment, teaching and learning, and outcomes

The role will contribute fully to whole-school leadership, including school improvement, safeguarding and strategic development.

Key responsibilities

Depending on the role and the strengths of the successful candidates, responsibilities will include:

  • Leading key aspects of school improvement and the School Development Plan
  • Driving high standards of teaching, learning and pupil outcomes
  • Leading a core subject (English or Mathematics)
  • Supporting and developing middle leaders
  • Leading and supporting staff professional development
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive and high-expectation school culture
  • Acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Contributing to the day-to-day leadership of the school

Further information

The Assistant Headteacher will work closely with the wider SLT, sharing responsibility for whole-school leadership and deputising for the Head teacher where appropriate.

In the absence of the Head teacher, the Assistant Headteacher may take operational responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school, supported by other members of SLT.
