Why work at Edale Rise?

Edale Rise is a school where inclusion, care, and mutual respect shape every interaction. Our community is warm, nurturing, and united by a shared commitment to ensuring that every child, especially those with additional needs, feels valued and supported.

A deeply caring and inclusive culture

Our values are lived out every day. Ofsted recognised that “This is a school where everyone ‘takes care’” and that these core values “are consistently understood and applied by pupils and staff alike.” Staff build meaningful relationships with children, and inspectors noted that “Pupils are cared for and nurtured.” For an inclusion‑focused leader, this is a school where your moral purpose will be shared and celebrated.

Exceptionally positive behaviour and attitudes

Our pupils embody kindness, community and consideration. Inspectors highlighted that “Pupils are well behaved and courteous. They greet people warmly… They thank each other.” They also recognised the strong moral ethos of our children, noting that “Pupils are inclusive and respectful” and celebrate the diversity of their community. For staff, this means a joyful climate where relationships are strong and behaviour supports learning for all.

Strong provision for pupils with SEND

Edale Rise already has firm foundations in place for inclusive practice. Ofsted found that “Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported. Staff skillfully adapt lessons to ensure that these pupils learn well.” There is a significant capital project over summer 2026 that will mean our facilities for SEND will allow our provision to shine. This is a setting where inclusive leadership will be valued, championed, and truly impactful.

A place where you can thrive as a professional

Leaders work collaboratively and proactively. Ofsted praised the school’s leadership for being “quick to address any issues… [with] all actions carefully considered,” and for building “a cohesive team with a united ambition.” As Assistant Head for Inclusion, you will be joining a team that is reflective, supportive, and committed to continuous improvement.

As Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion you will:

• Provide strategic leadership of SEND across the school, ensuring that inclusive practice is embedded in every classroom and that all pupils with additional needs receive high‑quality, personalised support.

• Teach our morning SEND group, delivering targeted, nurturing provision that supports pupils with a range of needs to make strong progress.

• Lead and develop the SEND team, including teaching assistants and specialist staff, ensuring they are well‑supported, well‑trained and confident in delivering effective interventions and adaptations.

• Undertake full SENCO responsibilities, including oversight of the SEND register, high‑quality provision mapping, co‑ordinating EHCP processes and Annual Reviews, and ensuring compliance with statutory SEND expectations.

• Work closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher to shape and strengthen inclusive provision across the school, contributing to whole‑school strategy and ensuring all pupils, particularly the most vulnerable, are able to thrive.

• Build strong partnerships with families, external agencies, and professionals, ensuring communication is clear, collaborative and centered on the best interests of the child.

• Champion inclusion across Edale Rise, modelling our ‘take care’ ethos and helping foster a culture where every pupil feels valued, respected and able to succeed.
