Our School
Greenacre is a very special school. Our mission to 'nurture, empower and prepare' pupils for life is at the heart of everything we do. We have high expectations. Pupils' behaviour is exceptional and pupils have a 'voice and choice' in their education. As a consequence we are oversubscribed. The majority of pupils are placed by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council although, increasingly, pupils travel from Wakefield, Sheffield and Rotherham.
Our Pupils
Our pupils form a diverse learning community with a wide range of needs. The majority experience severe learning difficulties including a wide range of diagnoses. Others have complex learning difficulties with barriers to learning such as communication and interaction difficulties or complex physical and/or medical conditions. The school is based on a model of social inclusion, where pupils are grouped by age and not ability. Classes are larger than average with most classes accommodating up to 28 pupils. These pupils are successfully supported by a team of teachers and support staff.
Their Requirements
Our pupils would like to appoint a leader who is kind and will help them. They want someone who will get to know them and make things fun. The student council will be part of our interview process and they have high expectations!
We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
We want our people to reflect our diverse communities and create a safe space in which everyone belongs. We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds and especially those from under-represented groups including those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. All posts are offered subject to enhanced DBS checks and appropriate references. All posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
