Assistant Headteacher - Head of Sixth Form job summary

We are seeking an exceptional educational leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher with specific responsibility for leading our Sixth Form. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and visionary leader to shape the future of post-16 education at Newlands Girls' School at a very exciting stage of our journey.

About us

Outcomes in the Sixth Form are consistently strong and regularly place us in the top 20% of schools for progress. The pastoral support offered to students is equally strong. The Sixth Form team comprises of two Heads of Year and a Learning Mentor who are located in our Sixth Form Centre, which is also the base for our Careers Advisor. We believe that Sixth Form students need to be carefully guided and supported at all stages in order to be successful in moving to the next stage of their lives.

This is an amazing opportunity to put your mark on our Sixth Form which has grown from 180 students to over 240 in the past three years. With a growing curriculum offer that encompasses both A Levels and Level 3 BTECs as well as the EPQ and a host of enrichment opportunities, our students are highly successful and go on to study at a wide range of universities as well as securing places in high level apprenticeships.

What we are looking for

The role would suit an experienced middle leader looking for the next stage in their career or an Assistant Headteacher looking for new opportunities. Whatever their background, the successful candidate will be as adept at helping shape teaching and learning and the post 16 curriculum as refining the personal development programme and offering guidance and support to students. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership of the Sixth Form as well as having wider whole school leadership responsibilities which will be decided on appointment.

Where we are going

As a school, we are constantly striving to be better and are currently implementing Tom Sherrington's Walkthrus as well as using research from Steplab, Peps Mcrae and evidence from some of the highest performing schools in the country. We believe in a consistent approach to teaching and learning but also departmental autonomy and put evidence-based approaches at the centre of our practise.

We have a Senior Leadership Team who positively embrace new ideas. If you are passionate about educational innovation and excited by the prospect of making a lasting impact in a school that values forward-thinking leadership, we would love to hear from you!

Join us in shaping exceptional futures for our students.
