Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion)

Location: Barnhill Community High School

Salary: Leadership Scale point 13-17 (£73,708 - £80,884)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full time

Start Date: Easter or September 2026

Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher

Barnhill Community High School is a high-performing, heavily oversubscribed school in West London, with outcomes consistently in and around the top 5-10% nationally. Our ethos is rooted in Respect, Wisdom, Aspiration and Community, and we are proud of the exceptional culture of learning, discipline and care that enables every student to thrive. Our most recent Ofsted inspection judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ and our work with disadvantaged children is a particular strength.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher to lead our whole-school inclusion strategy. This is a pivotal senior leadership role, driving an ambitious and coherent approach for students who require additional support to access high-quality education. At Barnhill, inclusion is unapologetically achievement-led: we hold the same high expectations for all students, while recognising that some face greater barriers and therefore need smarter, sharper and more sustained support.

This role is one of two assistant headteacher positions. There is also a position available to join the achievement team that works in support of the curriculum and outcomes.

The role

The postholder will oversee all key strands of inclusion, ensuring that provision is expertly designed, consistently implemented and relentlessly evaluated. This will include:

Curriculum and teaching: securing inclusive curriculum design, adaptive teaching and consistently strong classroom practice.

Targeted interventions: commissioning, implementing and evaluating interventions that demonstrably improve outcomes.

Behaviour and attendance: shaping systems and culture so that students are supported to meet Barnhill’s high standards and remain fully engaged in learning.

Multi-agency and external liaison: working effectively with families, professionals and agencies to remove barriers and strengthen provision.

Strategic leadership: using data and evidence to identify need, prioritise action, and assure impact across the school.

You will work in close partnership with the Curriculum Leadership Team, Student Support Team and SEN team, ensuring that inclusion is not a separate “strand”, but a core feature of how Barnhill delivers exceptional education.

The person

We are looking for a highly credible middle or senior leader who:

Has a strong track record of improving outcomes for students with additional needs and/or barriers to learning

Leads with clarity, conviction and empathy, and can unite teams behind a shared strategy

Understands high-quality teaching and how to support staff to deliver inclusive practice at scale

Is confident working with data, evaluation and accountability to demonstrate impact

Can build strong professional relationships with staff, families and external partners

Why Barnhill

Barnhill offers a supportive, solution-focused culture, a talented middle leadership team, and a strong record of developing senior leaders. Staff benefit from a range of wellbeing provisions and excellent facilities.

Visits and conversations are warmly welcomed. For an informal discussion, meeting with the headteacher or a tour, please contact Mrs Donna Nash, PA to the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team; dnash@barnhill.school
