Assistant Headteacher (SENCo and Inclusion) job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping provision for pupils with SEND, supporting staff to deliver high-quality teaching, and ensuring every child is able to thrive and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for SEND and inclusion across the school as a member of the senior leadership team.
  • Lead and develop a whole-school approach to inclusive practice, ensuring high-quality provision and positive outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of SEND provision, using data and evidence to drive continuous improvement.
  • Line manage and support relevant staff, ensuring effective deployment of teaching assistants and targeted support.
  • Support and develop staff through coaching, training, and professional development to strengthen inclusive teaching across the school.
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure effective teaching, targeted interventions, and appropriate support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated and effective support for pupils.
  • Oversee statutory SEND processes, including EHCPs, annual reviews and compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership, strategic planning, and school improvement priorities as part of the senior leadership team.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and wellbeing, ensuring every pupil is supported to succeed.
