Assistant Headteacher SENCo job summary

The SENCo at Sanders Draper Secondary School plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), receive the support and provision they need to thrive and achieve their full potential. As a key member of the school's leadership team, the SENCo will work closely with the head, governors, trust and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective SEND policies, practices, and interventions that are aligned with the school's vision of providing an exceptional educational experience for all.

Requirements:

  • NASENCO qualification or NPQ SENCO (new mandatory qualification Sept 2024)

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Substantial experience working as a SENCO or in a similar role

  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities

  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and high expectations for all students

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience working in a secondary school setting

  • Additional qualifications or training in special educational needs

  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of teaching assistants and learning support staff

  • Proven track record of improving outcomes for students with SEN
