What skills and experience we're looking for

Ambition • Pride • Success

Anglesey Primary School is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and ambitious leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for SEND and Inclusion.

We are a large, diverse and inclusive primary school at the heart of the Lozells community in Birmingham. Our children come from a rich range of cultures, languages and backgrounds, and our values of Ambition, Pride and Success sit at the heart of school life. We want every child to feel safe, valued and successful, while being challenged and supported to achieve their very best. This commitment to high expectations within a safe, nurturing and positive environment is central to our school vision. Anglesey Primary School

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEND, inclusion and improving outcomes for children, but who also wants to make a wider contribution as a senior leader.

Anglesey was judged Good in all areas at its March 2024 Ofsted inspection, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years. Ofsted Reports We are proud of what has been achieved, while being equally ambitious about the next stage of our development.

The opportunity

Our new Assistant Headteacher will provide strategic leadership for SEND and inclusion across the school. You will lead and develop our provision, strengthen inclusive classroom practice and ensure that children with additional needs receive the right support, at the right time, without lowering expectations of what they can achieve.

You will join a school with established specialist SEND provision, including provision for autism and speech, language and communication needs. Birmingham City Council Just as importantly, you will help us continue to develop excellent inclusive practice throughout our mainstream classrooms.

We are not looking for someone who believes inclusion is simply about interventions, paperwork or additional adults. We are looking for a leader who understands that great inclusion begins with great teaching, high expectations, strong relationships and knowing children exceptionally well.

We are looking for someone who:

  • is an experienced and successful teacher and school leader;
  • has strong knowledge and experience of SEND and inclusive practice;
  • understands the statutory responsibilities of the SENDCo and the graduated approach;
  • can lead, inspire, support and appropriately challenge colleagues;
  • believes passionately that SEND should never mean reduced ambition;
  • can build strong relationships with children, families and professionals;
  • is strategic, organised and able to turn plans into sustained improvements;
  • wants to contribute fully to the wider leadership and life of Anglesey; and
  • shares our commitment to Ambition, Pride and Success.

In return, you will join a vibrant, diverse and child-centred school community, with the opportunity to shape and develop SEND and inclusion as a genuine member of the Senior Leadership Team. Anglesey has a strong commitment to professional development and to providing children with a broad range of experiences and opportunities. Anglesey Primary School

Most importantly, you will work with children who make Anglesey a very special place to work and with colleagues who are committed to making a difference to the community we serve.
