What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher, who will play a central role in shaping the ethos and culture of this specialist provision for 8-16 year olds with social, emotional and mental health needs in Bury St Edmunds.

The Assistant Headteacher role comes with a teaching commitment, and you will be part of shaping our long-term aim to provide outstanding learning opportunities for our pupils. You will have a comprehensive understanding of teaching, learning and assessment in the primary or secondary phase or within a special school setting. You will need to be flexible, determined and passionate about providing the best outcomes for pupils, as well as be confident managing challenging behaviours.

Alongside the skills to lead, monitor and evaluate the improvement of learning and teaching across all phases of the school, you will require a thorough understanding of all aspects of highly effective safeguarding across the school and beyond. In addition, you will have a track record of effective working with parents, carers and wider stakeholders to support the SEND and EHCP process with a comprehensive understanding of pastoral interventions for pupils with additional needs and how they support aims of EHCPs. You will be responsible for the development of the pastoral team and have excellent communication skills, alongside a strategic yet flexible approach to school leadership.

You can view a full list of requirements in the job description and person specification. If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all the requirements, please apply as we may be able to support you in any areas for development or we may have alternative roles that are a good fit for you. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
