The successful candidate will:

  • Have a track record of high-quality teaching (preferably in KS2) which has delivered strong pupil outcomes and progress.
  • Be able to demonstrate that they have leadership skills that bring out the best in other staff, enabling them to flourish and pupils of all backgrounds to reach their potential.
  • Have a clear personal philosophy and strong pedagogical, and curriculum knowledge steeped in research.
  • Be happy to support and further the Church of England ethos of our school though our school values.
  • Be dedicated to raising standards and removing barriers to learning for pupils with the ability to challenge each pupil from whatever their starting point.
  • Have high expectations of themselves, other staff and pupils with a positive, can do and proactive nature.
  • Be an excellent communicator and able to demonstrate the development of strong relationships with parents and other stakeholders.
  • Value the importance of forging strong productive relationships with the whole school community.

Would you like to work in a modern, purpose built forward thinking primary school in Plymouth’s Ocean City? St Matthew's C of E Primary & Nursery Academy is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to our strong school leadership team.

Assistant Headteacher (L4 – 9) with responsibility for Key Stage 2 initially and a significant aspect of whole school development. Your role will be to support the headteacher in the day to day running of the school and to lead a team of Year leaders to continually improve the quality of teaching, curriculum, leadership, and provision within this phase of the school. There will be a small teaching commitment associated with this role.

Working as part of St Christopher’s Multi Academy Trust this is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future development of our school as we move from being a Good school to being a Beacon school in which children, staff and our wider community are enabled to shine.
