Assistant Headteacher – Teaching and Learning, Professional Learning for Teachers, Pupil Progress and Outcomes job summary

EBN Academy Trust is seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Headteacher to join our leadership team and make a significant impact on student outcomes, professional development for teachers, and overall school success.

Core Purpose:

As the Assistant Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional culture at EBN Academy. Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership in key areas including:

  • Teaching and Learning: Enhancing the quality and consistency of teaching practices across the academy.
  • Professional Learning for Teachers: Overseeing staff development, including trainee teachers (ITT) and early career teachers (ECT), and managing ongoing CPD.
  • Pupil Progress and Outcomes: Leading the use of data-driven strategies to ensure all pupils achieve their full potential, while managing assessment and examination processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning: Ensure high standards of teaching and learning are maintained through quality assurance and mentoring staff. Lead curriculum development and innovation to create a dynamic learning environment.
  • Professional Development: Develop and lead the CPD programme for teaching staff, ensuring high-quality professional learning opportunities. Manage the induction and progress of ITT and ECT staff.
  • Pupil Achievement: Drive student achievement by leading performance analysis, ensuring targeted interventions are in place. Oversee exam systems and ensure compliance with national guidelines.
  • Leadership: Line manage curriculum leaders, contribute to recruitment, and foster a culture of collaboration and high expectations among staff and students.

  • Proven experience in leadership and management within a secondary education setting.
  • A strong track record of improving teaching and learning, as well as raising student outcomes.
  • Expertise in data analysis and driving interventions to support student achievement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to inspire staff and students alike.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.

EBN Academy 2 is an Alternative Provision Free School in Birmingham. The Academy serves students between the ages of 13-16 years for whom mainstream school has not met their individual needs. Students are referred to the Academy for a wide range of reasons including disengagement from mainstream education, additional needs not being met fully by mainstream school, a lack of suitable places in a local area and issues around peer relationships and attendance. EBN Academy 2’s ambition for every young person is to help them achieve the best possible academic, personal/social and aspirational outcomes possible. We are committed to inclusion, the removal of barriers to progress and the highest standards in teaching and learning.

The EBN Academy Trust is part of the East Birmingham Partnership of Secondary Schools and Academies. This group collaborates on a range of and pupil support areas including behaviour and attendance and post-16 provision. EBN Academy 2 has students places commissioned from a wide range of secondary schools across Birmingham and Solihull with a number of places also commissioned from further afield
