About the Role
The Assistant Headteacher will drive improvement across teaching and learning, curriculum, and raising outcomes for pupils across the academy or multiple schools within Windsor Academy Trust (WAT). As a key person in curriculum development, they will utilise their experience across the primary age range to build a strong learning environment that unlocks both academic and personal potential. The post will involve some line management depending on designated responsibilities, and requires the individual to model excellent practice while supporting the holistic development of the school.
Leadership and Management
The Assistant Headteacher will:
Support the Headteacher in the effective day-to-day management of the school community, including inducting/training staff members, arranging cover for absent staff, leading assemblies and staff meetings, and organising school events.
Respond efficiently to needs and requests from children, staff, parents, governors, and visitors.
Take on responsibilities as designated by the Headteacher, such as phase leadership, subject leadership, or pastoral matters, to lead and contribute to whole-school improvement.
Develop a strong learning environment which has high expectations of unlocking academic and personal potential achievements and behaviours.
Lead by example by teaching and modelling excellent practice, developing working relationships, and supporting training and developments to secure the smooth running of the school.
Promote and safeguard the safety and welfare of pupils by working collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with parents, carers, and across multiple agencies for the well-being of all children across the Trust.
Strategic Direction and Resource Management
The Assistant Headteacher will:
Ensure the vision for the school is clearly articulated, shared, understood, and acted upon effectively by all.
Demonstrate the vision and values of the school in everyday work and practice, motivating and working with others to create a shared culture and positive climate.
Ensure that the management and administration of the school support its vision and aims.
Provide effective organisation and management of the school, seeking ways to improve organisational structures and functions based on rigorous self-evaluation.
Ensure the school, the people, and the resources within it are organised and managed to provide an efficient, effective, and safe learning environment.
Monitor and control the use of resources and budget according to the school's agreed financial procedures.
Ensure policies and practices take account of all relevant school data, inspection, and research findings, and monitor, evaluate, and review their effect, taking action if necessary.
Develop and present a coherent, understandable, and accurate account of the school's performance to a range of audiences including governors, parents, and carers.
Collaborate actively with other schools across the Windsor Academy Trust.
Teaching and Learning
The Assistant Headteacher will:
Promote models of excellent classroom practice through whole-class and group teaching, coaching, mentoring, and supported self-evaluation for teaching and learning staff.
Ensure that the curriculum provides a highly positive, memorable experience and rich learning opportunities, so it has a positive impact on all pupils' behaviour and safety, and contributes very well to achievement and development.
Ensure excellence in all of the school's activities, demonstrated by an uncompromising and highly successful drive to strongly improve achievement, or maintain the highest levels of achievement, for all pupils over a sustained period of time.
Maintain a deep and accurate understanding of the school's performance and of staff and pupils' skills and attributes.
Ensure consistently high expectations of all pupils so they develop high levels of resilience, confidence, and independence.
Foster a high level of enthusiasm for, participation in, and commitment to learning.
Develop a range of highly successful strategies for engaging with parents and carers, to the very obvious benefit of pupils.
Ensure a high standard of pupil behaviour and discipline within the framework of the school policy, supporting other staff as necessary.
Leading and Managing Staff
The Assistant Headteacher will:
Lead, motivate, support, challenge, and develop staff in order to secure improvement for all learners.
Build a professional learning community which enables others to achieve and ensures effective continuing professional development.
Build a collaborative learning culture within the school and actively engage with other schools across Windsor Academy Trust to build effective learning communities.
Implement and sustain effective systems for the appraisal of staff and lead and coordinate their professional development.
Acknowledge responsibilities and celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams.
Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for self and others, by treating people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect to create and maintain a positive school culture.
Regularly review own practice, set personal targets, and take responsibility for own professional development.
General Compliance and Duties
The Assistant Headteacher will:
Carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the Conditions of Service for School Teachers in England and Wales, and do other reasonable tasks as required by the Headteacher.
Participate in training, other learning activities, and performance development as required.
Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
Undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
