Assistant Premises Manager job summary
As Assistant Premises Manager, you will support the management and maintenance of the school's extensive site, undertaking a wide range of caretaking, maintenance and facilities responsibilities.
You will participate in a shift rota to ensure site coverage during school opening hours and will assist with the preparation of facilities for teaching, learning, school events and community lettings.
Key responsibilities include
- Support the Premises Manager in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented school environment.
- Undertake routine site inspections and maintenance tasks across the school estate.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance including plumbing, joinery, decorating and general building maintenance.
- Maintain the security of school buildings and grounds, including opening and closing procedures.
- Monitor heating, lighting and water systems and report maintenance issues as required.
- Ensure walkways, access routes and entrances remain safe and accessible, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
- Undertake litter clearance, replenishment of supplies, receipt and distribution of deliveries and general porterage duties.
- Set up rooms and learning spaces, moving furniture and equipment as required.
- Support the preparation and management of facilities for lettings, evening events and community use.
- Assist in the maintenance of school grounds, playing surfaces, pathways and boundaries.
- Organise and coordinate maintenance contractors when required and monitor standards of work.
- Source materials and equipment, ensuring value for money and compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Coordinate servicing and maintenance of school vehicles.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to ensure facilities support operational needs.
About you - we are looking for an individual who:
- Has experience in site management, caretaking, facilities management or a similar role.
- Possesses practical maintenance skills across a range of trades.
- Works effectively with minimal supervision and can prioritise a varied workload.
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Understands the importance of health and safety and site security.
- Is flexible and willing to participate in shift working and occasional evening support for school events.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards across all aspects of the school environment.
