Assistant Primary Headteacher – Inclusion, Safeguarding & Wellbeing job summary

Why work with us?

We are looking for an ambitious, inspiring and deeply relational Assistant Headteacher to join our school. Leading across Inclusion, Safeguarding, Thrive, attendance and OPAL, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our school's vision, driving standards and ensuring every child flourishes.

The right fit matters: This is a non-class-based role designed to give you the dedicated time, trust and capacity needed to lead effectively. We are looking for an extraordinary leader with energy, drive and kindness. You might be:

  • An experienced Headteacher seeking a better balance—stepping away from the overarching administrative pressures of headship to focus on what you love most: shaping provision, driving inclusion and making a lasting impact on children's lives. (Must be available to start in January at the latest)

  • A brilliant, talented SENCO eager for dedicated, non-class-based capacity—someone who knows the role is demanding, but wants the time, trust and strategic platform to deliver outstanding inclusion without having to juggle a class alongside it.

  • An experienced Assistant Headteacher or middle leader looking for a fresh, inspiring step into a values-driven school.

For us, talent, commitment, authenticity and alignment with our values matter most. You will need a 'roll your sleeves up' attitude—ready to get stuck in, embrace outdoor play, get muddy alongside staff and children, and bring warmth and a smile to work every day.

A joyful, inclusive culture: Our school is a joyful place to work where everyone is valued, included and supported. We are proud of our open, welcoming culture—there are no closed circles here, just a team that works together with kindness and mutual respect. As a senior leader, you will be key to nurturing this whole-team ethos, leading with empathy and supporting colleagues to be the best they can be.

Our values: We are a school that truly lives its values. With our children, we focus on three key principles every day: be kind, challenge yourself, and don’t give up. For our staff, we go further, focusing on three additional values:

  • Commitment - striving to continually improve through collaboration, coaching and mentoring, not because we are not good enough, but because we can always get better.

  • Connection - building genuine relationships with children, families and external agencies, inspired by the belief that relational, trauma-informed practice is at the heart of learning.

  • Make a difference - focusing on real impact, not just ticking boxes, especially for children who face barriers to learning. We are professionally curious and firmly believe SEND, EAL and disadvantaged children should all succeed in the same way as other children, constantly reflecting on how best to make that happen.

Join us: If you’re looking for a leadership role where you feel supported, valued and able to make a lasting impact while maintaining a healthy work-life balance, we’d love to hear from you. We warmly welcome school visits from prospective candidates, or please get in touch at secretary@launcestonprimary.uk if you would like further information.

Launceston Primary is part of the Athena Learning Trust Launceston College Multi Academy Trust (Trust) alongside Atlantic Academy, Bideford College, Altarnun Primary, Egloskerry Primary and Launceston College.

Launceston Primary School opened its doors in September 2021. The two-form entry school started with Reception pupils only, and will gradually fill to Year 6 to reach a maximum capacity of 420 pupils.

Launceston Primary School aims for all of our children to delight in life experiences and achievement, becoming happy, successful and responsible young people.

The success of Launceston Primary School is built on strong relationships between the school and the wider community ensuring that pupils know, understand and respect the diversity within the school, the local area, our country and the world. Our pupils develop a respect for the environment and an understanding and tolerance of others that ensures that they become successful, responsible and happy world citizens.

We consider the “through school” education to be paramount to success. We have close links with local nurseries, to ensure that children have a smooth transition to ‘big school’ and start in Reception ‘school ready’. Through our established relationships with staff at Launceston College, we can ensure that there will no dip in learning from Reception to Year 11, and beyond. The school’s geographical proximity to Launceston College will ensure pupils have access to both specialist teaching and specialist facilities not accessible to most primary age pupils.
