Assistant Principal job summary
We are seeking to appoint someone with the potential to become an outstanding Assistant Principal to assist the Principal in the organisation, management and leadership of the school, undertaking the key duties of a senior leader. The successful candidate would be expected to use their initiative and judgement within the school’s aims and values, in line with the Academy Performance Agreement and to demonstrate accountability to the Principal.
Whilst the specific duties and responsibilities will be agreed at the interview the key aspects of the role revolve around taking responsibility for the academic progress and outcomes of vulnerable pupils and those who face barriers to learning and progress, such as those with SEND, those who are economically disadvantaged, young carers, looked after children, those with mental health issues and medical needs, and others that may be identified. The successful candidate will be passionate about the achievement of these groups and will lead the school’s efforts to ensure that they achieve at least in line with their peers and also access the additional opportunities that the school can offer in the same way as their peers.
Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School is a selective boys grammar school with a coeducational sixth form. It is a seven form of entry school with over 1400 pupils. The school is significantly oversubscribed and has recently added an additional form of entry. The sixth form is also a highly successful and popular part of the school. The school has exceptional facilities and a distinctive ethos of providing outstanding academic teaching alongside a range of exceptional opportunities for all pupils.
