Assistant SENCO job summary
As the Principal of Manor Church of England Academy I am delighted to share this opportunity and introduce our school to you. Manor has a proud history, having served the young people of York for over 210 years. We are a Church of England Academy and our Christian values guide, influence and underpin all that we do. We are a member of Heartwood Learning Trust, a growing family of schools working together to transform education across York, Hull and North Yorkshire. We are blessed to have state of the art facilities and supportive families, however our greatest assets are the over 1,100 young people enrolled with us and the 140 highly gifted teaching and support staff that work in our academy. Our aim is that all students and staff 'serve others, grow together and live life to the full'.
We are seeking a committed and passionate Assistant SENCO to join our pastoral team and play a key role in removing barriers to learning so that every student can achieve their personal best.
Working under the direction of the Vice Principal/SENCO, you will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of high-quality SEND provision across the school. This includes leading bespoke interventions for individuals and small groups, supporting teaching and learning in lessons where appropriate, and working closely with teaching staff, Teaching Assistants, pastoral colleagues and external agencies to ensure students’ needs are met effectively.
You will contribute to the development and review of Individual Education Plans, provision maps and support plans, help ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, and play an active role in monitoring progress and evaluating the impact of interventions. The role also involves liaising with parents and professionals, coordinating exam access arrangements, work experience and personalised provision, and supporting the quality assurance of SEND practice through student voice and data-informed decision making.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with students with SEND, a strong understanding of effective SEN strategies and interventions, and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, families and colleagues. You will be organised, reflective, confident using data and ICT, and fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
In return, we offer a supportive working environment, opportunities for professional development, and the chance to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people within an inclusive school community.
What we can offer:
Experienced and supportive School Leadership Team
Opportunities for staff to develop through Continuous Professional Development
Local Government Pension scheme
Occupational Health
Employee Assistance Programme
Cycle to work scheme
