What skills and experience we're looking for
Education and Experience
Previous experience of caretaking, handy person skills or similar role is ideal, but not essential as long as required training standards are met
NVQ 1 &2 in Cleaning and Support Services or equivalent experience
BICS qualifications or equivalent in relevant discipline or experience
Knowledge and Understanding
Understand what processes to follow in an emergency and who to report to
Understanding of and compliance with child protection procedures
Sound knowledge of Health & Safety practices and procedures
General knowledge of DIY and unskilled maintenance
Knowledge of industrial cleaning and use of appropriate equipment, chemicals and materials
Skills
Health & Safety including use of chemicals COSHH, Manual handling, Fire Safety, including drills, use of equipment, practices and procedures, use of ladders, lifting, cleaning etc.
Have good written and oral communication skills and ensure good working relationships with a wide range of contacts
Abilities
Ability to use relevant equipment, materials and chemicals
Be able to work as both part of a team and as a lone worker
Ability to carry out or make arrangements for minor repairs
Ability to use email systems and Google Workspace, with basic spreadsheet and document skills
A flexible approach to shift rotas to suit the ever-changing needs of the business, including covering leave of team members
Commitment to changing shifts, sometimes at short notice e.g. sickness cover, to ensure buildings are opened and closed – which may include traveling between sites in a shift
A commitment to embrace change to new ways of working to suit the ever-changing needs of the business
Be able to work as both part of a team and as a lone worker
Ability to communicate with a wide range of people
Safeguarding
Have knowledge and understanding and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils

Vacancy: Assistant Site Manager
Grade: TSPT 5 (point 16 to 19)
Hours: 36hours per week (7hrs 12 mins daily), Monday to Friday, 52 weeks a year
(25 days holiday plus bank holidays)
Salary: £24,304 - £25,626 per annum
Start date: ASAP
We are looking to appoint an effective, reliable Assistant Site Manager to join our Trust as part of our Site Team. The candidate will regularly be required to travel across schools within our Trust, and will be based at more than one site as part of a weekly shift timetable.
Duties will include:
- Lock and/or unlock the schools and carry out security checks on the building
- Carry out and record statutory checks and help maintain Health and Safety records
- Maintenance of property and grounds to a high standard including liaising with contractors
- Monitor site stock and order supplies
- Carry out DIY above and beyond the scope of a competent DIY person, completing more specialist work as required.
- Willingness to attend training courses including Health and Safety
- To be responsible for regular checking and testing of fire alarm and emergency lighting
- Checking heating and water systems
- Regularly checking and ensuring the condition and safety of tools
- To ensure that external areas, paths and drives remain free from litter and hazardous material and that drains and gullies are free flowing and clean as appropriate
- To ensure that pathways are clear of snow and apply salt when required, keeping records of this action
- Liaising with other members of the Site team on a regular basis to ensure suitable handover of tasks.
- Be available for lettings outside of regular school hours and also emergency call outs if necessary. These will be paid at the lettings/overtime rate.
The successful candidate will be a team player who will take pride in ensuring that any sites they are based at are clean, tidy and that the health, safety and welfare of children, staff and visitors is a priority.
