Attenance & Pastoral Lead job summary
Key duties
Safeguarding
To co-lead the school’s Designated Child Protection Officers team and act as a point of contact for all child protection issues.
To co-deliver safeguarding training with a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in line with local and National policy and Legislation.
To work with a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to ensure staff are regularly updated with changes to policy and procedures within the School, Trust and Local Authority.
To work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Inclusion Team and all staff regarding support and strategies for ‘at risk’ children.
To support children who are vulnerable as identified by the staff and make recommendations of suitable interventions.
To work with the SENCo to identify pupils in line with social and health needs who would benefit most from additional support. Make referrals to outside agencies that will support pupils to achieve their full potential.
To make sure that all relevant staff are kept informed and information gathered prior to professional meetings including reporting on pupil wellbeing, academic progress and attendance.
To work with pupils who have child protection issues, are deemed to be in need or with pupils who meet the criteria for either group.
To manage and ensure the CPOMS database of Child Protection incidents in school are up to date.
To liaise with outside agencies (Eg: Social Services, Police, Health and Charities) and home for children who are at risk and/or require additional support for the benefit of and promotion of safeguarding children at all times.
To attend Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences and Child Protection Strategy meetings
To be the point of contact for Children’s Services, to respond to information requests for education welfare checks from MASH and to call MASH to report any child who is at risk of harm
To liaise with the Locality and Community Support Services to carry out No Names Consultations
To keep up to date with legislation and guidance from the local authority with reference to best safeguarding practice
To liaise with the admin and other schools to ensure information relating to pupils at risk, subject to safeguarding and child protection plans is passed on when children arrive/leave the school.
To be the lead member of staff for pastoral support and children who are at risk or in need or have health needs and require support from Health Visitors and/or the School Health Nurse Team.
Family Support:
- To take the lead in completing EHA’s and coordinate the support available from outside agencies producing documentation for staff to refer to when working with vulnerable children
- To complete all relevant paperwork regarding the TAF process, liaising with LCSS should support be required, submitting the paperwork to LCSS on time and ensuring that the parents have a copy
To support parents/carers with contact and communication to any outside agencies. E.g Health visitor, school nurse, CAMHS, Mental Health Support Team etc.
To have full knowledge and understanding of the range of activities, courses, opportunities and individual professionals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for pupils
To maintain contact with families and carers to foster a positive relationship with school and develop family support for pupils
Undertake other duties as directed by line managers commensurate with the post.
To be responsible for developing effective relationships with parents/carers and the wider community
Attendance
To be responsible for supporting and monitoring attendance throughout the school
To ensure a robust monitoring system is adhered to for attendance, including communication with school staff, parents/carers and pupils
To organise and run regular attendance assemblies in line with the whole school calendar
To oversee the daily attendance and ensure clear communication with the admin team when absence is reported
To run attendance and absence reports through the schools Management Information System under the direction of line manager
To work with families where attendance and punctuality is poor, build positive relationships and provide school based support to understand this as a barrier to education
To identify trends in attendance and intervene appropriately making referrals to the Local Authority Attendance Team and other outside agencies
To understand and identify when a Fixed Penalty Notice referral needs to be made
To analyse reports and provide statistics for Senior Leadership Team and Governors
Required Skills and ExperienceQualifications and Experience
GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent, in Maths and English
Working knowledge of policies and procedures relating to child protection
Relevant OCSB Safeguarding Training minimum Level 2
Experience of working in a school environment
Experience of attending multi-agency safeguarding meetings and maintaining accurate records
Experience of dealing with safeguarding disclosures
Experience of contributing to or delivering safeguarding training
Experience of contributing to policy development
Experience of working with a wide range of external agencies
Experience of evaluate the risk of abuse and assess the need for intervention
Experience of facilitating children and young people’s learning and development through mentoring, promoting and maximising educational achievement.
Good listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, especially with children
Excellent organisation and time management skills
Problem solving skills and think creatively
Experience of recording information concisely and present reports
Experience of seeking support and draw on expertise of others
Experience in working proactively and independently and experience in dealing with a number of challenges at the same time, showing you are being able to prioritise
Good ICT skills
Experience in working collaboratively and as part of a team
Experience in working flexibly
