Attendance & Admissions Officer job summary

“Pupils and staff enjoy belonging to a vibrant school community where caring, respectful relationships are the norm” - Ofsted (January 2024)

We are delighted to invite applications for the role of Attendance Officer at King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy, an academy recently graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in all four areas in January 2024. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team and play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school whilst coordinating the academy’s admissions processes and supporting families throughout the admissions journey.

We are looking for a bold individual with experience of working in a fast-paced administrative or school environment, who can use sound judgment to prioritise competing demands and manage sensitive situations with confidence. The successful candidate will take ownership of attendance and admissions processes, ensuring systems are robust, responsive and focused on improving outcomes for our pupils and providing an excellent experience for prospective families.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate ambition by striving for high standards and consistently upholding the academy’s values, recognising the vital link between attendance and pupil success. You will be proactive in identifying patterns, supporting families, and working with colleagues to remove barriers to attendance.

The successful candidate will also play an important role in managing admissions to the academy. You will act as a key point of contact for prospective families, coordinate in-year admissions, maintain accurate pupil records and work closely with colleagues and external agencies to ensure a smooth transition for pupils joining the school.

Being collaborative is essential in this role. You will work closely with staff, pupils, parents/carers, prospective families and external agencies, building positive relationships and supporting the wider school community. You will be a reliable team player, able to remain calm and professional under pressure.

Most importantly, you will be part of a kind and supportive community of Senior Leadership, Teaching and Support staff, where “staff feel valued and appreciate how their workload and wellbeing are considered by leaders at all levels,” as highlighted in our most recent Ofsted Inspection Report.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference, supporting young people to achieve their full potential and helping families access outstanding educational opportunities.

King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy is a dynamic and forward-thinking school, recently recognised as the most improved school in the West Midlands and the fifth most-improved school in the country by the Fairer Schools Index (January 2025). We are also incredibly proud to be the first Birmingham City Academy School in conjunction with Birmingham City Football Club, fostering a unique and inspiring environment for our pupils.

We are incredibly proud of the journey our academy is on and we are looking forward to meeting other like-minded professionals who want the best outcomes for our pupils who “know staff have high expectations of them and want them to be successful.” Both staff and pupils are “rightly proud of how much Balaam Wood has improved over recent years” in which “daily life reflects the school’s values of being bold, ambitious, collaborative and kind.” We are looking forward to receiving your application and welcoming you to our vibrant community.

Who will you be joining?
