Attendance and Attendance Officer job summary

We are looking for a proactive, organised and approachable Attendance Officer to join our school team. This is an important role with a direct impact on pupils’ education: you will help ensure that every child attends regularly, arrives on time and receives the support they need to overcome barriers to attendance.

About the role

Monitor daily attendance and punctuality, accurately maintaining attendance records and following up unexplained absence.

Build positive, respectful relationships with pupils and families, offering practical support and challenge where needed.

Identify attendance patterns and concerns, prepare reports and support timely interventions.

Work closely with pastoral and safeguarding colleagues, senior leaders and external agencies.

Support attendance meetings, home visits and formal processes in line with school policy and statutory guidance.

Promote a whole-school culture in which excellent attendance is understood, encouraged and celebrated.

About you

You will have excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills, with the confidence to hold sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations professionally. You will be able to analyse information, manage competing priorities and work calmly and discreetly. Experience in a school, attendance, pastoral, safeguarding or family-support role would be an advantage, but we also welcome applicants with relevant transferable skills.

What we offer

You will join a welcoming and supportive team committed to improving outcomes for children and families. We offer a thorough induction, relevant professional development, access to wellbeing support.

The school is a split site (Dinnington and Whiston), and although the role will be based primarily at one site, there is the expectation the role may work between the sites when needed.
