Attendance Officer job summary

English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College is looking to appoint an Attendance Officer on a temporary basis until August 2027. As an Attendance Officer, you will play a crucial role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting pupil engagement and wellbeing.

You will be responsible for monitoring daily attendance, identifying patterns of absence, and working closely with pupils, families, and staff to address barriers to regular school attendance. Your duties may include maintaining accurate attendance records, following up on unexplained absences, conducting home visits, and supporting the implementation of attendance improvement strategies.

Collaboration is key—you’ll liaise with pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, external agencies, and local authorities to ensure a coordinated and supportive approach. You’ll also contribute to the development of school policies and initiatives that promote a culture of high attendance and punctuality.

This is a rewarding and impactful role that requires excellent communication skills, discretion, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Your work will directly support pupils’ academic progress, wellbeing, and long-term success.
