Gooseacre Primary Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Attendance Officer to join our team. This is a rewarding opportunity for an organised and proactive individual who understands the important link between attendance, wellbeing and educational outcomes. Working closely with pupils, families and colleagues, you will play a key role in encouraging excellent attendance habits, removing barriers to learning and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the day-to-day monitoring of pupil attendance and punctuality across the academy.
- Work proactively to improve attendance levels and reduce persistent absence.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers to support regular school attendance.
- Follow up absences promptly through telephone calls, meetings and other appropriate interventions.
- Identify pupils requiring additional attendance support and coordinate appropriate actions.
- Undertake or support home visits where necessary to strengthen engagement with families.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure all register information is complete and up to date.
- Monitor attendance trends and provide reports to school leaders and relevant stakeholders.
- Attend attendance review meetings and contribute to support plans for pupils and families.
- Work closely with safeguarding, SEND and pastoral colleagues to ensure barriers to attendance are identified and addressed.
- Ensure all attendance-related administration is completed accurately and within required timescales.
- Support the academy's commitment to safeguarding by ensuring attendance concerns are identified and escalated appropriately.
What We're Looking For
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- Experience in an administrative, attendance, pastoral or school-based role.
- Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Confidence managing and analysing attendance data and records.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with families.
- A professional and resilient approach when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies and wider stakeholders.
- Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records using school management systems.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
- Safeguarding or child protection training is desirable.
- A commitment to supporting children's wellbeing, attendance and educational success.

Welcome to Gooseacre Primary Academy
Gooseacre Primary Academy is located in Thurnscoe in South Yorkshire, close to Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. We currently have over 300 pupils on our roll and ten classes in the school: Foundation Stage 1 and 2, three Key Stage 1 classes and seven Key Stage 2 classes.
The school has seen a remarkable pace of improvement in recent times and in June 2020 Ofsted judged us to be “a good school”. We are proud to have achieved this status for a second time, which is due to considerable dedication and effort from the whole team of staff and wider academy community. We are committed to maintaining our rate of progress. We will build on our strengths, ensuring good practice is embedded into the school and drive forward new initiatives to enhance our performance further.
We are delighted to now be a part of the Astrea Academy Trust. The Astrea vision enables individual academies to flourish with real autonomy, whilst also ensuring a strong ethos of support and collaboration.
